When I find myself reading WSJ on my phone then writing out journal entries on paper to make sense of the mergers, accounting treatments and pending lawsuits I read about, it reminds me of how much I love accounting.  If that wasn’t real enough, I passed all of my CPA exams - and it only took me 1,373 days.

I have participated in or owned the month-end close process for every role I’ve held throughout my career. Digging into reconciling items is my thing. I learn a lot about a business by understanding the relationships between the numbers in the financial statements. My expertise is general ledger clean up, post-merger integration efforts and seeking ways to save money in my department by learning, documenting and re-engineering processes.

I once had a job candidate tell me my interview was “hard” and made him nervous. As a leader, I set high expectations for my team - anything else is a disservice to them. I’ve managed teams from 2-40 and have an affinity for supporting them in realizing their fullest potential. I’ve created employee engagement programs, facilitated job-related training sessions and traded the old-school conference room staff meetings for outdoor walks around the building to build rapport with my team.

Outside of the office, I love hanging out with my family. We cook together, workout together, and break down football games together. I also love to volunteer. Since my first experience in high school, I’ve served as a mentor, finance committee chair, and board member for local and national nonprofit organizations. In 2017 I was recognized by THEE Ohio State University as a Rising Buckeye Award recipient - an honor given to alumni making significant public service impacts in our communities.

Nobody needs extra time like a busy working mom does. As Founder of The WERKin' Mommas™ my mission is to make life easier for busy moms as my team runs errands, delivers groceries, and helps busy moms manage their households. Those "extra set of hands" give moms valuable time back in the day to do things we love like working out, resting and hanging out more with our kids.

I speak across the country and write about accounting, leadership, and the fascinating art of working motherhood on Medium, Forbes, Ellevate Network, and my blog.
